Suzhou
Suzhou borders Shanghai in the east, south of Yangtze. It is renown for its historical, cultural heritage and its natural beauty. Suzhou has been called by many names: "Capital of Silk", "Land of Abundance" and "World of Gardens". An old saying "Paradise in Heaven, Suzhou and Hangzhou on earth". Suzhou has a mild and humid climate. This ancient city was declared by the State Council to be one of the four cities (others: Beijing, Hangzhou and Guilin) where the protection of historical and cultural heritage and natural scenery is the priority. Suzhou comprises of four districts: Pingjiang, Taichang, Jinchang, Canglang and the suburbs, and six satellite cities Changshou, Zhangjiagang, Taichang, Kunshan, Wuxian and Wujiang), which covers an area of 8,488 sq km with a population of about 5.8 million which 1.1 million is in the city proper. Transportation Suzhou has excellent land, water and air transportation. The city is served by two airports and 85 km from the Hongqiao International Airport in Shanghai. The Jiangsu-Shanghai Railway, the jiangsu-Shanghai Expressway and the inter-province highways 312, 204 and 318 assure the city an easy access to the nation's larger markets and distribution centers. Suzhou has three seaports that handles 15 million tons of cargo with its 20 ten-thousand-ton berths and 10,000 ton oil tanker berth.
