FUJIAN - Fuzhou (Capital of the Fujian Province): The city of Fuzhou is located in the eastern part of Fujian Province at the lower reaches of the Mainjiang river, separated from Taiwan only by a thin strip of water. Fuzhou is the famous hometown of many overseas Chinese compatriots.

Under its jurisdiction, Fuzhou has five districts, six counties, and two cities. The city itself covers 11,968 square kilometers, of which 1,043 square kilometers are urban areas, and has a population of 5.75 million including 1.45 million urban residents.

Fuzhou, located in a marine monsoon climate in a sub-tropical zone, has an annual temperature of 19.7ºC. Fuzhou has a warm climate with no frosty or snowy days throughout the year.

In total, 4.8 billion US dollars in foreign funds were invested in Fuzhou in 1999. During the same year, the export and import volume reached 5.2 billion US dollars.

The Fourth and the Jiefang bridges over the Mianjiang river were recently built and rebuilt respectively.
