JILIN - Changchun (Capital of the Jilin Province): Changchun is situated in the Songliao plains, in the heart of the province. The city has an area of 18,881 square kilometers and a population of 2.8 million urban residents. There are over 220,000 hectares of forested land and 208 rivers, whose basin area is more than 1,000 square kilometers. Changchun is rich in natural resources with more than 37 kinds of wild animals and 230 kinds of plants, of which over 150 can be used medicinally, 50 as raw materials for industries, and more than 30 for consumption. "Changbaishan Ginseng" is well known at home and abroad.

Economic Overview of Changchun: In recent years the average annual GDP of Changchun has reached 50 billion yuan. The percentages of the first, second, and tertiary industries have increased 13.5%, 14.5%, and 13% respectively each year. Changchun has over 10 large-scale enterprises. The China No.1 Automotive Corporation Group in Changchun has 262 enterprises with an annual output of 1,500,000 cars. Six brands of their car fittings were granted the national-quality gold medal and 30 brands, the silver medal. Other manufacturing industries in Changchun are also developing and blooming.

Sustained Investment Environment: The overall infrastructure of the city has been gradually strengthened. It has a complete public facilities system with 350 kilometers of tap water pipelines and 280 kilometers of coal gas pipelines. The daily gas supply capacity is 338,000 cubic meters. Most urban families now use coal gas, natural gas, or liquefied petroleum gas.

Changchun Development Zone: The Changchun Development Zone is 15 kilometers from the Changchun airport in the south and 2.5 kilometers from the Changchun train station in the north. At present, more than 50 modernized factory buildings and service facilities have been established and are operational. In the beginning of the 21st century, the total output of technology, industry, and trade is estimated to be approximately 10 billion yuan.

Economy Environment in Other Cities: The city of Jilin is situated at the upper reaches of the Songhuajiang River, in the central part of the province of Jilin. It covers an area of 27,120 square kilometers and has a population of 4.28 million. The city is very rich in natural resources with more than 20 kinds of minerals including nickel, gold, molybdenum, and iron. It is also rich in water resources, a rarity in China, with 3.5 million kilowatts of electric power resources. Jilin is an important forestry base in the province. The city also provides the "Three Treasures of Northeast China" - ginseng, mink, and deer antler.

Baicheng is located in the northwestern part of the province of Jilin. It has 850,000 hectares of cultivated land and is a key producer of maize, rice, soybean, Chinese sorghum, green beans, and beets. It also has 886,000 hectares of grassland available for livestock breeding and its annual meat output reaches 120,000 tons. Within the boundaries of the city there are six rivers offering 92,500 hectares for raising aquatic products. It has 502,700 hectares of forested areas, with timber reserves totaling 8.98 million cubic meters. There are 2.3 billion cubic meters of quality underground water available for further development. Baicheng has made significant strides in agricultural development.
