SHAANXI - Xi'an (Capital of the Shaanxi Province): The most famous of China's six ancient capitals, Xi'an, located at the center of the inland Guanzhong Basin, is the gateway to western China. The city covers a total area of 998.3 million square kilometers with an urban area of 162 kilometers and has a population of 8.5 million, including 3.25 million urban residents. Xi'an is one of the major natural protection areas of the country. It has 12 rivers, most of which belong to the Yellow River Valley. Over 230 types of birds as well as such rare wild animals as the golden monkey, panda, and antelope make their home in the Qinling Mountain area. The area also has 47 types of minerals and is rich in geothermal resources.

Achievements in Opening to the Outside World: Xi'an has made great achievements in carrying out its strategic policy of "promoting development through opening up and seeking advancement through development".
(1) The scale of utilizing foreign investment was expanded. The city has approved 1,662 foreign-funded projects with the total investment close to 5.5 billion US dollars.
(2) The imports and exports volume sustained growth and hit 530 million US dollars. Xi'an has direct trade relations with 104 countries.
(3) Xi'an has expanded its economic and technological cooperation with the outside world; the city has fulfilled contracts totaling 285 million US dollars for construction projects and services in cooperation with foreign enterprises.
(4) Xi'an has strengthened its existing relations and has established sister-city relations with 15 foreign cities.

Xi'an is the Toursim City: Xi'an, one of the world's most famous ancient cities, was the capital of 14 dynasties including the Western Zhou Dynasty (C.1100 - 771 B.C.), the Qin Dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A.D.), and the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It not only has a multitude of treasured cultural relics and historical sites but also many famous scenic spots and landscapes such as Mount Hua, Taibaishan Mountain, Lishan Mountain, and Hukou Falls of Huanghe, which have attracted both domestic and foreign tourists.

Xi'an New and High -Tech Development Zone: Since the Xi'an New and High-Tech Development Zone was established in 1996, the number of projects in the new development zone has risen to more than 500 and the total income in foreign trade, industry, and new technology has reached 8.5 billion yuan. As a result of the Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone strengthening its drive to attract foreign investors and capital construction, the total income in foreign trade, industry, and new technology has reached 1.35 billion yuan. The Xi'an Modern Agricultural Integrated Development Zone is currently under construction; some areas have already been put into operation.

Other Cities Welcome Foreign Investors: Lantian's jade and related art products are well known both in China and aboard. Baoji and Shangluo are rich in mineral resources and light industry production. In Xinyang, Changan, Yan'an, Hanzhong, and Danfeng county, there many scenic spots and historic sites; these areas have excellent potential for tourism.
